About Judy and her blog

A literacy specialist who has taught students from preschool through college, Judy is the author of the Children’s Book Corner series of resource books for teachers, librarians, and parents; The Read-Aloud Scaffold: Best Books to Enhance Content Area Curriculum; Empowering Families: Practical Ways to Involve Parents in Boosting Literacy (co-authored by Susan E. Busch); and the Christopher Counts! series of picture books for ages 4-7. Judy also wrote a monthly column on connecting social-emotional learning/character education to the curriculum through children’s books for LibrarySparks. Her work inspired the creation of the Children’s Book Corner blog.

On this blog Judy writes about outstanding children’s books for Pre-K—Grade 8 that connect social-emotional themes to curricula. The books featured here entertain children while teaching concepts and broadening understanding and perspectives. They inspire, they open minds and hearts, they initiate conversations, and they instill a love of reading: these are books children will remember and treasure. They plant a seed and fill a need.

An advocate for promoting reading through community initiatives, Judy has received awards from the New York State Reading Association and the Niagara Frontier Reading Council, for whom she is the Professional Development Chair.
